ASHLAND -- One person died and three were injured in a fiery crash that has closed the intersection of Ohio 302 and U.S. 42, about three miles southeast of Polk.
Gloria Ickes was sitting in her kitchen when a semi carrying bananas came through the wall around 2:15 this afternoon after a collision with a pickup truck pulling a trailer.
According to Ashland Sheriff's Office Capt. Carl Riechert, the crew cab pickup pulling a 20 to 24-foot gooseneck trailer was headed east on Ohio 302 when it collided with the semi, southbound on U.S. 42.
Riechert said the details of the crash haven't been worked out yet.
The driver of the smaller truck died at the scene. Bystanders pulled the driver of the semi to safety, according to authorities at the scene. Two passengers in the pickup truck also were injured.
Several explosions were reported. Power lines are down. The house is destroyed.
Officials predict the road will be closed at least eight to 10 hours. U.S. 42 north is being stopped at Ohio 89 and traffic is also being stopped at Ohio 302. Emergency vehicles only are being allowed to pass.
