WKYC Web StaffCLEVELAND -- High winds moving through the area overnight have caused power outages affecting thousands throughout Northeast Ohio.
Cleveland Heights and Akron were among the hardest hit earliest on, combining for at least 4,100 outages -- including at least 2,700 in Akron.
Since then, Akron power was restored, but Cleveland Heights is still dealing with more than 1,400 outages.
Seven Hills had more than 1,500 outages at one point, but power there was mostly back on by 5 a.m.
Independence had more than 700 outages for hours overnight, but are under the 250 mark as families are waking up.
Hinckley Township also had about 300 reported outages overnight, but that issue has since been resolved.
Strongsville and North Royalton had between 600 and 700 outages throughout the night, but power was off in those cities for only an hour or so.
FirstEnergy is attributing these outages to high winds knocking down power lines.
Crews have been dispatched to each report of damage as they receive them throughout the night.
There is no timetable for when power will be restored to each area impacted.
