WESTLAKE-- Thousands of people came to witness the lighting ceremony at Crocker Park Saturday evening. They also got to witness a very special moment for an 11-year-old boy named Gabe.
Gabe has cancer. He was diagnosed with leukemia when he was at age 9. He submitted a video to Make-A-Wish Foundation. His wish was to go to Disney World with his family.
His story played out before thousands. Ashley Korvas from Make-A-Wish explains, "we never say no. Gabe is just a kid who's been diagnosed with leukemia."
But Gabe has managed to fight off his cancer. And he's ready to celebrate his remission. In his video, Gabe said, "this trip means I'm 5 months cancer free.".
Gabe was a little too shy to talk Saturday night, but he couldn't get out of going on stage where he was presented with his wish.
Menchies Frozen Yogurt along with Make-A-Wish foundation made the trip possible. And on December 29th, he and his family will celebrate being "cancer free" at the most magical place on earth, just as he wanted.
