PARMA -- 30 firefighters from three cities were called to a fire at the historic Parma Theater Friday afternoon.
The fire was brought under control just after 6 p.m.
The Parma Fire Department says the owner of the store next door reported the fire.
Firefighters from Parma, Brooklyn, and Parma Heights quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the lobby.
There were no injuries reported.
Fire inspectors are looking into what may have caused Friday's fire and are still calculating a damage estimate.
Parma Fire PIO, Doug Turner said "there's heavy smoke damage on each side of it [the theatre], the lobby has a lot of fire damage and smoke damage."
Ridge Road reopened shortly before 9 p.m. Friday night.
The theater closed Sept. 9 and a sign out front reads "Closed. Thanks for your patronage."
The theater stopped showing movies during the week because of poor attendance at the beginning of the year.
The building was for sale with an asking price of $795,000 and needed interior repairs.
The theater was built in 1936.
There had been talk from city officials and community members alike who wished to save and preserve the theatre.
Parma City Council members who were on scene as fire crews cleaned up tell Channel 3, they still plan to move forward with their original plan to acquire the theatre and turn it into a multi-purpose arts center for the community.
