Winter officially arrives at 6:12AM, but the wintry weather will start well before that.
Winter Storm Warning for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties from 4AM Friday through the day Saturday. These are the traditional snowbelt areas where the highest accumulations of snow will be.
Winter Weather Advisory for the rest of northern Ohio from 4AM Friday through 1PM Saturday.
A cold front will be blowing through northern Ohio this evening and temperatures will be dropping.
That means the rain will change over to snow. We could have a coating of up to 2" on the ground to start the day Friday, with the best chances for that to the west of Cleveland.
The snow will continue to fall and the wind will continue to blow through the day. Daytime accumulations of 2" to 4" possible.
Lake effect will then continue to drop snow on the snowbelt through Friday night, and the snow will slowly shift east and taper off through the day.
Storm totals for most of northern Ohio will be 2" to 4", but in the snowbelt areas totals could reach 10".
As far as the roads go ... the morning will be better than the evening commute, but we will have slow downs for much of the day. The holiday travelers in addition to normal Friday traffic will mean many more cars on the road.
We have been through worse. Use common sense and stay safe.
Tonight: Rain changing to snow. Accumulations up to 2" possible, especially west of Cleveland and the I-71 corridor. Windy. Temperatures will fall from the 40s into the middle 30s
Friday: Periods of snow. Accumulations will range from 2" to 5". Windy. Temperatures hold in the low/mid 30s
Friday night: Lake effect snow continues. Another 2" to 5" in the snowbelt. Breezy and cold. Upper 20s
Saturday: Early snow showers east, otherwise mostly cloudy to partly sunny through the day. Cold and breezy. Low/mid 30s
Sunday: Partly sunny. Mid 30s

Christmas Day (Tuesday): Mostly cloudy with scattered light snow showers. Low/mid 30s
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy with scattered snow, especially later in the day. Mid 30s
Thursday: Snow likely. Windy and colder. Highs in the upper 20s to low 30s
**Today's weather forecast models (computer tools we use to predict the weather) are showing a significant storm system bring a chance for significant snow to northern Ohio on Thursday. This will need to be watched VERY closely.**
