CLEVELAND -- The family of 30-year-old Malissa Williams is speaking out about her death. Williams was shot and killed by Cleveland Police following a police chase Thursday.
She was the passenger in a car driven by 43-year-old Timothy Ray Russell. Her family believes Williams just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
"She was not a violent type person," said her aunt, Dorothy Sigelmyer. "I just want to know why this had to happen this way, I want justice."
According to Sigelmyer, Williams lived with various family members on and off before taking up residence in a shelter. Her uncle Walter Jackson Sr., says he was shocked to learn that Williams had been involved in a shooting to that extent.
"I really believe that the Cleveland Police made a bad decision," said Jackson.
A total of 137 bullets were fired into the car that Williams was riding in.
Her friend, Greg Sherels, added Williams "was a gentle soul" who "enjoyed life her way."
