Alliance: Dozens still without heat until gas restored

ALLIANCE -- Hundreds of Columbia Gas customers endured frigid temperatures overnight without help from their furnaces.

Ray Frank with Columbia Gas says 325 customers had to be cut off from the natural gas supply in the northern part of Alliance.  Customers from Harrison Street to Gaskill Street waited while the gas company made repairs.

A utility worker, not with Columbia Gas, accidently turned the gas line off.

To make sure that the gas lines did not have air inside them, Frank said the whole system had to be purged by reintroducing natural gas to the area.

Each home will need to be visited and gas has to be manually turned on to each appliance once restored.

As many as 150 customers had their gas lines restored as of 2 p.m. Saturday.

Columbia Gas has 60 crews on site looking to have all customers restored by Saturday night.

The work has become more complicated, as many residents have left their homes. Workers aren't able to restore service to homes without someone being there.

Columbia Gas customers who are in the area can call 1-800-344-4077 to have their gas service restored.

Police are asking that you check on family members, especially the elderly, who you may know in that area.
