EBRO, Fla. -- A spring break crash in the Florida Panhandle killed two Northeast Ohio women and put two more in critical condition Saturday morning.
Walton County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Bill May tells the Northwest Florida Daily News that the women's car was full of spring break visitors returning to Ohio.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Lake Catholic High School graduate Brittney Gallagher, of Willoughby, Ohio, was driving near Ebro on Saturday morning when she drifted into opposing traffic. Troopers say Gallagher's attempts to correct the problem caused her vehicle to rotate and cross into the path of a pickup truck driven by Kelly Porter of Stillwater, Okla.
Gallagher and her front passenger, Courtney Miller of Niles, Ohio, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, Diana Mitchell, of Solon, and Lauren Kane, of Willoughby, were hospitalized in critical condition.
Porter was hospitalized in serious condition. Her four passengers were hospitalized as well, but their conditions are not known.
Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The Northeast Ohio girls are all enrolled at Ohio State University.
