This next storm system (coming Tuesday into early Wednesday) is very much a location, location, location type of scenario when it comes to potential accumulation.
You see, we will be receiving the product of two storm systems morphing into one. Throw in the fact that this is now early March (higher sun angle, longer days...) and things get very complicated on the forecasting side.
A northern low (now in the northern Plains) will merge with a southern low (now in the southern Plains) to form one big storm in the Ohio Valley. This storm will then trek to the Eastern Seaboard.
Just how the merger takes place is the big question...there is very rarely a storm that goes exactly as planned (forecast), which is why it is important to keep up with the latest.
As of today, the merger will be taking place tomorrow afternoon into the evening. We will have a dry start to Tuesday (some sun, even) but clouds will increase and the snow will start accumulating late Tuesday.
The timing of the snow looks to be mid afternoon for areas south and west to late night for areas far northeast.
For Richland and Ashland counties -> Winter Storm Warning: accumulations of 4" to 8" possible by Wednesday morning
For Huron, Wayne, Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties-> Winter Weather Advisory: accumulations of 2" to 5" possible by Wednesday morning
For Erie, Lorain, Cuyahoga, Medina, Summit, Lake, Geauga, Portage, Ashtabula and Trumbull counties (no current alerts): accumulations of a light coating to 2" or 3" is possible by Wednesday morning (lightest totals northeast)
This is NOT lake effect, although the lake may add some extra moisture to the mixture.
As the storm gets closer and we get a better look at how the merger takes place, you may find that the warnings and advisories are changed by the National Weather Service.
Of course, we'll keep you up to date with the latest. Stay tuned.
