SUMMIT COUNTY -- Summit County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Springfield Township man Monday for repeatedly impersonating a police officer and driving a car with police decals.

Here's how it all unraveled.

On March 11, Summit County Deputies say an automobile repair shop reported that a customer asked a mechanic if he would be able to install police lights on his vehicle.

The vehicle was a white Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with "K9" stickers on the rear and both sides of the vehicle.

The mechanic described the contents of the vehicle as a bag labeled, "POLICE," handcuffs, and a police baton.

The driver was wearing a vest that said, "POLICE" and he had a badge on his belt. He told the mechanic he was a police officer.

On March 15, the Crown Victoria was seen in the City of Green Giant Eagle parking lot located. The inside of the vehicle contained emergency flashing lights, an emergency siren, dash camera, and what appeared to be police radios.

The license plates on the vehicle were expired. Area shoppers told police they were concerned that the driver may have been impersonating a police officer.

On March 25, the driver of the white Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor was arrested for impersonating a police officer by the Summit County Sheriff's Office.

He was identified as Sean P. Duffy, 48, of Springfield Township and he is also known as John Kidd.

The investigation revealed that Duffy has never had formal police training and has never been employed as a law enforcement officer in the state of Ohio.

Duffy was in possession of numerous items used by law enforcement personnel. Duffy had been pulled over at least four times in the previous week and, on one occasion, he stated he was a retired Sheriff's Deputy and on another occasion, he claimed to be a retired Canton police officer.

If anyone has information regarding these incidents or has had contact with Sean Duffy where he has portrayed himself as a law enforcement officer, please contact the Summit County Sheriff's Office 330-643-2147.
