AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. -- A Parma native and senior at Kent State University was killed in a car accident in Alabama Saturday.

Joseph J. "JJ" Marino, 23, was ejected from an SUV Saturday night. He died Sunday at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Ala.

Marino was a passenger with four others heading north on Interstate 65 when their SUV collided with a semi truck driven by an Ashville, Ala. man.

The truck driver, John Purifoy, was not injured in the crash.

The SUV was driven by Nader Hassen, 22. He and his passengers, Lamar Washington, 23, Michael Willis, 25, and Joseph Noah, 22, were taken to Baptist South for their injuries.

Their conditions were not available.

Friends of the family say Marino and his friends were headed home from a trip to Florida.

Alabama State Troopers are still investigating.
