MARBLEHEAD -- The Erie County Sheriff's Office says it appears two bodies pulled from Lake Erie today are those of a father and daughter last seen kayaking earlier this month.
The coroner will have to perform tests to positively identify the remains.
The man's body was pulled from the lake Friday afternoon near the Cedar Point breakwall. The girl's body was found mid-morning about six miles offshore from the City of Huron.
Petty Officer Lauren Laughlin says the Coast Guard station at Marblehead was called at 11 a.m. and located the girl's body. It was brought ashore at the Shelby Street Pier.
Deputy Chief Jared Oliver with the Erie County Sheriff's Department says they believe the body is that of 12 year old Viola Francis based on clothing and jewelry on the body.
Viola and her father Jonathan were last seen when they went kayaking in Sandusky Bay on April 6. The kayaks washed ashore in Ottawa County the next day. The two did not have life jackets.
The Erie County Coroner says that early indication on the cause of death is drowning with secondary hypothermia.
