Strongsville Strike: No deal, teachers return to picket line

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- A Sunday negotiating session that went late into the night between the Strongsville teachers' union and Strongsville school board ended without a deal.

The two sides walked away from the bargaining table with a federal mediator shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Union officials say the board rejected the union's latest offer, described as a one-time proposal.

Strongsville Education Association officials say their offer included no pay raises and agreed to the insurance concessions the district proposed last week. The offer also included an extra 30 minutes of teaching time added to the school day.

Union officials estimate those offers combine to save the district approximately $3 million per year.

School board officials did not comment.

No new meeting time has been set.

Sunday marks the eighth week of the strike.

Teachers will return to the picket lines Monday morning.
