CLEVELAND -- On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration announced the Plan B "morning-after" pill would be made available to girls 15 and older without a prescription.
The decision came on the heels of a federal ruling earlier this month, in which U.S. District Judge Edward Korman of New York ruled there should be no age restrictions on emergency contraceptives.
For years now, the morning after pill has been a polarizing topic much like any other involving woman's reproductive rights, which made Tuesday's FDA decision a hot-button topic for people on both sides of the issue.
"Our children at 15, they're not really adults, so I think that that's too much of a choice for them to make," said Carol Hinnant of Cleveland. "It's very alarming, then we force our children to take on the guise of being an adult and they're not ready for that."
However, access and choices are what Cleveland Heights resident Beth Gehring believes every woman, no matter her age, has a right to.
"I'm really in favor of choice and I'm really in favor of choice for everybody. I think that the FDA decision is a little tricky, but I do think it puts the onus on parents to be more responsible."
