SANDUSKY -- Cedar Point officials confirm that seven people were injured Friday a ride at Cedar Point malfunctioned.
Park officials said six people were treated at Cedar Point's First Aid Station and one person was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky.
Park spokesperson Bryan Edwards said the Shoot the Rapids ride malfunctioned and rolled back down the lift hill. Witnesses told the Sandusky Register several people jumped into the water to try and keep the boat upright.
The ride debuted in the Frontierland area of Cedar Point in June 2010.
In a statement Cedar Point officials say "The safety of our guests is our number one priority... Cedar Point officials are currently investigating the incident and have reported it to state of Ohio officials. Shoot the Rapids will remain closed until park officials and inspectors from the state of Ohio complete their review."
