COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police have identified a battery as the cause of an explosion at Columbus Police headquarters Tuesday night.

Officials tell NBC4 in Columbus that an explosion was heard on the second floor of the Columbus Police Department headquarters building on Marconi Blvd. at about 7:27 p.m.

A battery on a power lift exploded, which was in the lobby while crews worked on insulation, police explained early Wednesday morning.

The building was evacuated and locked down.

The roads were reopened and the building was cleared at about 1 a.m., NBC4 reports.

No injuries have been reported.

The headquarters building is located a few blocks from the Ohio statehouse.

The police department's non-emergency and 911 lines were not affected.
