Lakewood: Two water main breaks, two road closures

LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- Two large water main breaks have closed Lakewood Heights Boulevard in two places early Friday morning.

A large water main break closed Lakewood Heights Boulevard at Alger Road starting around 2:30 a.m.

Then, just before 4 a.m., another break closed Lakewood Heights Boulevard from Arthur Avenue to Carabel Avenue.

The Lakewood Heights Boulevard-Alger Road intersection is closed, but westbound traffic on Lakeshore can still get on I-90 like normal. Traffic in both directions will need to detour along one of the streets north of this intersection, like Madison Avenue, to get around the road closure.

Detours from the second closure will have to at least take Delaware Avenue and may have to go up to Hilliard-Madison.

Water could be seen coming up in the street on Alger Road as far as a quarter mile north of the intersection.

Crews have shut off the water at Lakewood Heights and Alger and are working to assess and repair the damage. Water crews say that main was a 12-inch pipe.
