LORAIN -- Karla Garcia was asleep on her couch around 5:20am Sunday -- when seemingly out of nowhere -- a man came flying through her glass window.
"He just jumped in and he screamed, 'Don't shoot! Don't shoot!' and he jumped on top of me."
Garcia was not hurt despite the shattered glass all over the living room. She recognized the bloodied man, William Taylor, 32, who lived in the house right around the corner.
"He said, 'Please, help me! Please help me!'" Garcia recalled. "He even called police [himself]."
But police weren't far. Minutes earlier, officers responding to calls about shots fired, discovered the body of 21-year old Catalina Ortiz inside Taylor's home in the 1600-block of Washington Street.
She had been shot in the head and leg.
When officers arrived at Garcia's home, Taylor was already being held down on the floor by her grandfather.
"And when [my grandfather] had him on the floor, he was already calm," says Garcia.
However, as police were handcuffing Taylor, Garcia says officers tasered him, and he appeared to pass out.
Taylor later died at the hospital.
"Not necessary. Not necessary, because he was already calm," said Garcia.
Taylor's relatives say he was a family man, and that Ortiz was just a friend. They insist that there must be more to the story than meets the eye.
"I don't know too much, but I know my cousin, and he just didn't flip out and kill that girl, " said Levi Stringer.
Police are waiting for autopsy results to learn the cause of Taylor's death, and other clues in the murder of Ortiz.
