MANSFIELD, Ohio -- State troopers in Richland County say flooding is so severe that the Village of Bellville has been rendered inaccessible early Wednesday morning.

Saturated ground from about two straight weeks of rainfall has set up the low-lying Richland County for heavy flash flooding.

Overnight, rescue crews were dispatched to evacuate Bellville residents, officials said.

Most of the state routes and U.S. routes are flooded throughout the county.

Troopers say they are told if the rain stopped immediately, they would still be looking at a 1.5 to 2 foot rise in water levels. However, with more rain on the way, even more flood water can be expected as the sun rises Wednesday.

Ashland, Crawford and Richland counties remain under a flash flood warning until 5 a.m. Wednesday. An areal flood warning is in effect until 3 p.m.
